Characteristics of Strong Ground Motion Records from January 23, 2018, Lebak Earthquake

A major earthquakes exceeding magnitude 6 occurred in the coast of Lebak in January 23, 2018. The earthquake impacted the damaged buildings in Lebak coastal area. Since earthquake strong motion records in Indonesia are very rare, characteristics of ground motion records from these earthquake needs to be studied. This paper presents characteristics of strong ground motion records from January 23, 2018 Lebak earthquake and collects significant information for its interpretation. The data used were strong motion data recorded at AMGI, BACE, CLJO, KBJN and JUII stations. Characteristics of ground motions are analysed to describe the destructiveness of earthquake ground motions, with particular emphasis on peak ground acceleration, duration, frequency contents, and response spectrum. In the course of this study, the actual response spectrum from the earthquake also compared with the code specified in SNI-1726:2002 and SNI 1726:2012. The result showed the highest response spectrum at the CLJO station with acceleration 0.67 g and the smallest was 0.002 g in JUII station. Generally, the actual response spectrum still relatively low compared to the response spectrum design. The highest effective duration of Lebak earthquake was in JUII station with 272.93 s and the shortest in CLJO station for 34.03 s
